The Orlando Magic entered this contest 12-21 and on an eight game losing skid, and tried to change that in the Rose Garden. Although they played outstandingly well, giving the Blazers a run for their money, the Blazers gutted out the win.
The Blazers had a three point lead with about 16 seconds remaining, but Magic guard Jameer Nelson hit an improbable three to tie the game with 8.9 seconds remaining. Damian Lillard had a chance to seal the game at the end of regulation, but came up empty on the buzzer-beating attempt.
For the Magic, JJ Redick went off from deep (6-10) scoring 29 points to lead all scorers. Arron Afflalo had 24, Jameer Nelson had 21, and Nikola Vucevic had 17 points and 13 rebounds.
For the Blazers, 4 players had double-doubles, led by LaMarcus Aldridge, who had 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Damian Lillard had 18 points and 10 assists, JJ Hickson had 20 points and 15 rebounds, Nicolas Batum had 16 points and 10 assists, and Wesley Matthews had 24 points. All Blazers who played scored. Ronnie Price had 8, Luke Babbitt had 6, Victor Claver had 4, and Joel Freeland had 2. Sasha Pavlovic (coach’s decision), Jared Jeffries (coach’s decision), and Meyers Leonard (sprained right ankle) did not play.
The final, in overtime: Portland Trail Blazers 125, Orlando Magic 119
