It’s been well documented for a while among media members that Blazers president Chris McGowan has been actively shopping the naming rights of the arena, what we call the Rose Garden. It was recently reported by Isaac Ropp of 1080 the Fan (AM radio station in Portland) that the Blazers had sold the arena naming rights to Moda Health.
As Ropp noted, the deal was rumored to be $4.2 million per year. There were no reports of what the arena would be called, although we would guess something along the lines of either Moda Health Garden or Moda Health Arena. However, earlier this week, Candace Buckner of The Columbian reported that the Blazers had not reached an agreement regarding the naming rights. They were furiously denying the report.
That makes it official that the naming rights to the Rose Garden haven’t been sold to Moda Health, YET. McGowan is still actively shopping the naming rights.
I really don’t want to sell the naming rights. The Rose Garden is a name that reminds everyone of the city of Portland, the Rose City! I also heard that when the Rose Garden was built, the Blazers said they didn’t plan on changing the name. I don’t think I can get used to a new name, and I will still call it the Rose Garden, no matter what the name becomes.
What do you guys think? Do you guys like the idea of renaming the Rose Garden? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time,
